
Defense Sales Manager

PALFINGER is seeking a Defense Sales Manager to join our growing team in Schaumburg, IL as a foundational member for our Defense Solutions division. Reporting to the Sales Projects and Key Accounts Manager, this role is key to expanding our presence in government contracting across North America. You will lead efforts to identify new opportunities, build strong relationships with government agencies and prime contractors, and drive revenue through tailored solutions.
Your Responsibilities
- Identify and grow new defense accounts across the US and Canada while building strong relationships with the Department of Defense, procurement officers, military end-users, and prime contractors.
- Drive new business by uncovering opportunities, responding to RFPs, and executing a focused sales strategy that balances prospecting, client engagement, and closing.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure a seamless post-sale experience and high customer satisfaction, following up on projects as needed.
- Build technical knowledge of PALFINGER’s knuckle boom cranes, load handling systems, and forklifts to offer tailored solutions that meet customer needs.
- Monitor market trends, defense budgets, and competitors to refine strategy, meet sales targets, and represent PALFINGER at key defense events and exhibitions.
Your Qualifications
- 8+ years of proven success in sales, with experience in industrial products and defense industry.
- Technical aptitude and a willingness to learn product specifications. Background in military platforms such as vehicles or logistics support is a plus.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed (approx. 30%, depending on project and project phase)
- Located preferably in Great Lakes Midwest regions (preferred Detroit or Chicago region).
- This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. - 120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
