PALFINGER: Custom-made Solutions for Offshore Wind Turbines
PALFINGER MARINE was selected as a key supplier of nacelle cranes for the 15 MW wind turbines from Vestas, a global leader in sustainable energy solutions. After a collaborative development process and an intensive phase of prototyping and testing, the serial delivery of cranes has begun.
Since the end of 2024, PALFINGER MARINE has been supplying Vestas with service cranes for their offshore V236-15MW™ wind turbines. These specialized nacelle cranes are the result of a joint development and are therefore addressing all customer-specific use cases. Through its customized designs, PALFINGER MARINE has qualified as a major supplier for the Danish wind turbine manufacturer.
The collaboration with the experienced wind turbine manufacturer also reinforces PALFINGER's position as an expert in the offshore and maritime industry – especially in the growing offshore wind sector. As the demand for 15 MW Vestas turbines grows rapidly in the coming years, PALFINGER MARINE will also be able to utilize important growth opportunities as a result of the serial production.
Launch of a promising collaboration
For PALFINGER MARINE, this contract marks a significant milestone in its cooperation with Vestas, providing an important component of the wind turbine for lifting service equipment from the platform to the nacelle. The PALFINGER cranes are delivered to production plants in Lindø (Denmark) and Stettin (Poland), where they are fully integrated into the turbines’ hydraulic and electrical systems. The final products are destined for offshore wind farms around the world.
"We are particularly proud about our collaboration with one of the largest and highly innovative offshore wind turbine manufacturers. With our global service and distribution network, combined with our knowledge of local market requirements across the offshore wind industry, we support our customer in introducing its products to new markets," says Iavor Markov, Global Key Account & Segment Manager at PALFINGER MARINE. He adds:
"This cooperation allows us to further develop our products and to customize them to the specific demands for turbine maintenance. Our customers can benefit from our service in the long-term."
Customer focus at the heart of development
What sets these cranes apart is the collaborative concept between PALFINGER MARINE and Vestas. Over the course of the development process, the nacelle crane was adapted to meet the customer's specific requirements. As an integral part of the wind turbine, the cranes ensure safe and efficient lifting as well as handling of loads from 200 meters below the turbine for any maintenance and servicing operations.
PALFINGER MARINE builds on more than 20 years of experience in the offshore wind segment. As a trusted supplier of lifting and handling solutions to turbine manufacturers worldwide, PALFINGER MARINE ensures comprehensive service and support for customers through its global network, while strengthening its position by acquiring new clients.
