Container Skidding Systems

Container skidding systems

PALFINGER MARINE has developed a complete system for skidding and securing of containers on board SOV's. The system is operated by a radio remote control unit (wireless).

The container skidding system is operated by hydraulic cylinders. This ensures low maintenance costs and smooth operation. Each line is fitted with two hydraulic cylinders (one on each end of the sliding line) connected to the sliding line for pushing the skidding wagon and container.
Each hydraulic cylinder has a pulling force of 3-5 tonnes. With a friction coefficient of 0,2, it manages to push loads of 15- 20 tonnes each. By using two lines, cargo with up to 40 tonnes can be pushed. The container skidding system can move cargo at a speed of around 6-12 m/min. Each push wagon can be placed anywhere along the sliding rails. The carrier is easily connected to the sliding line by pushing down a handle.

PALFINGER container skidding systems offer:

  • Operated by hydraulic cylinders (each line fitted with two)
  • Skidding length according to customer’s specification
  • Push cargo of up to 40 metric tons
  • Move cargo at 6–12 m/min

The movable guiding system consist of four guiding brackets and is used to position the containers when lifted onto the sliding lines by the crane.

Movable container stoppers to be delivered and to be used for alignment towards locking system (sea fastening), two for each container position outside hatch position. The stoppers will be delivered to ensure that the containers are fully aligned to the locking system. Container stopper brackets for integration in deck (two for each container position outside hatch position) is included in our scope of supply.

Movable container locking devices for sea fastening of containers during transit:

  • Two for each container position outside hatch position
  • Four for the container located below hatch position
